Welcome
to the website of the Heart Mountain, Wyoming Foundation!

We
are a non-profit
organization established to memorialize and to educate the public about the
significance of the historical events surrounding the tragic and illegal
internment of Japanese Americans at the Heart Mountain Relocation Center near
Powell, Wyoming, between 1942 and 1945.
Here you will find information about the history of the Heart Mountain
Relocation Center, including its many hundreds of
residents who served in the U.S. military during World War II, the
mission and structure of our foundation, the many
milestones we have reached in our quest to preserve the camp site and the
stories of those who were incarcerated at Heart Mountain and those who lived in
the surrounding communities, and our exciting
plans for the construction of a
state-of-the-art Interpretive Learning Center at the camp site.

The
Heart Mountain Relocation Center was a crucible for the most enduring challenges
the American people face — challenges of freedom and order, of civil liberties
and national security, of citizenship and exclusion, of race and suspicion, and
especially of hope and resilience. We hope that you'll click around our
site and learn a bit about what the Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation is doing
to preserve the site and to educate the public about its history and its
lessons.
